Research also reveals that 11% of college students in the country have already been victims of sexual assault or violent acts The survey reveals that one in 20 university students in France has already been a victim of rape. The survey also shows that 11% of students have already suffered sexual assault or some violent act. The study was carried out by the Student Observatory of Sexual and Sexist Violence in Higher Education, a body created in May 2019. The survey was carried out April to December 2019. An online questionnaire was distributed to students around 50 universities and colleges in France . Over 10,000 responses were received, and 76% of them came women. The survey results show that excessive alcohol consumption (18%), students' lack of education (18%) and impunity (18%) are some of the causes of these crimes. A phenomenon that the researchers described as a “group effect”, such as aggression during parties, for example, would be the source of 20% of the attacks. Of the respondents, 34% said they were the target or witness of sexual violence. Among the victims, 24% said they were beaten when they were drunk.
