Mother meets her separated daughter at the US-Mexico border after 4 years

The size of the hug is the same as the longing. Maria Chic, 32, has not seen her 10-year-old daughter Adeilaida Chic since 2017.

The family was separated by the government of former President Donald Trump for illegally crossing the US-Mexico border.

Now they were able to give the hug that had been kept for all these years. Maria got clearance to cross the border again and met her daughter at an airport in Florida.

separated families

In 2017, Maria crossed the border with her daughter Maria and sister Patricia. However, they were detained by a US Border Patrol agent.

To this day, the mother remembers an agent pulling her daughter by the shirt and saying that they should go before they embraced.

Adelaida was eventually transferred the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detention center to a shelter in New York.

Maria was detained for seven months at the Eloy Detention Center in Eloy, Arizona, and then deported her and her sister to Guatemala, they are .

Reencounter

Before the reunion, Maria remembered the first video call she made with her daughter, after the breakup. “She asked me: ’ Mom, why did she leave me here? ’”, She says.

A short time later, another aunt of Adelaida, who was already living in the United States, got custody of the girl and took care of her during those four years.

After two attempts to cross the border again, Maria got permission and was able to go to meet Adelaida.

The two met at an airport in Florida and will now follow together, in the United States, with legal documentation.

The reunion of Maria and Adelaida was made possible by the Task Force on Family Reunification, which identified 3,913 children living apart their families. All will be identified and brought together.
